Music
Intent
At Sandilands Primary School our intent is to provide all pupils with a high-quality music education that engages, inspires, and challenges them. We aim to develop pupils' musical skills through the Kapow Music scheme, which offers a progressive, creative, and inclusive curriculum. By the end of their primary school journey, pupils will have a wide range of experiences, from singing and composing to playing instruments, and will have developed an appreciation for various genres and cultures. Music education fosters self-expression, teamwork, and resilience, ensuring that each child’s individual creativity is nurtured.
Implementation
We implement our music curriculum through the Kapow Music scheme, which offers a well-structured progression from EYFS to Key Stage 2. Each year group follows a clearly defined programme that includes listening, composing, singing, and performing. We ensure that music lessons are taught regularly, with a focus on building knowledge and skills over time. Teachers are provided with clear lesson plans and resources, ensuring consistency and high standards. Pupils are also encouraged to take part in school assemblies and performances, providing real-world applications of their learning. We ensure that music is accessible to all pupils, differentiating learning to meet their needs and celebrating a range of musical cultures and traditions.
Impact
The impact of our music curriculum is evident through increased pupil engagement, self-confidence, and enjoyment in music lessons. By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils will have developed a strong foundation in musical skills, including performing, composing, and listening. They will also have a broader understanding and appreciation of the role of music in society. We measure the impact through various ways of assessment by observing the enthusiasm and progress made by students. Furthermore, through school concerts, performances, and collaborations, we celebrate and share the musical talents of our pupils with the wider community, fostering a love of music that lasts beyond the classroom.
